Madeline is an undergraduate student at the California State University of Long Beach. She is in the college of arts and is the program of BFA printmaking. Some of the ideas that she likes to explore with her work is how politics and the media are always getting under each others throats. She says that while they are doing this they are not focusing on the most important things that are happening in the country, which can be resolved if the politicians and the media stop fighting. She likes to focus on the topics that people like to avoid when talking about politics. An idea that has explored through her work is, how the government are making themselves look like a circus. When she sees the current government all she sees a circus. However she says that this is our circus and we need to fix it and not abandon it.
This art piece was small and reminded me of all the political cartoons i would see in AP government and politics. The lines that she used where similar to the types of lines that political cartoons have. The color she uses are minal only to make the idea of the circus stand out more. The jagged lines give of the feeling of a political cartoon. This was not so a massive piece but a small one. One that you have to stand in front of and see for yourself.

The work was a depiction of what are government is currently, a circus. Today the media and the party in charge of the well being of the country are always seem to be putting on a show for the people of the US to watch and comment on. The words on the side for example show how the government is colluding but all this is doing is creating more of a circus for the people. Right now the government is putting up the act of entertainment and the whole world is watching. The bear in the unicycle reminds of the president because he is this big powerful person and all he is doing is putting on a show while colluding and deluding people of what might me happening inside of the country.

Kiyomi Fukui

Conversation On Conflict

Kiyumi mentioned that her art was therapeutic to her. A way to get her feelings out there. Kiyumi’s art like I mentioned, is therapeutic to her and therefore all her art is related to her in a personal level. The Green Thumb Project for example was really meaningful to her because it was a way that she was able to cope with her mother passing away. She would take her thump and with paper mache make an imprint and plant a seed along with her thumb. This reminded of living an imprint on something that you are giving life to which I thought was a meaningful way of reminding her of her mother. I believe her are is not to say a statement but for her to know she is expressions that she was reserved in her self. I noticed in her art that she likes to use a lot of plants from seeing her art. She likes for people also to express their feeling without the thought of being able to think but just putting something on paper. Something I really liked that was new to me was the way she used tea to paint and make dye or marks on the paper. I would have never thought of using tea and that was really interesting to me because when I see tea it reminds me of calm and peaceful.
